Mrs. Margie Callahan, age 96 of Berea, Ky. departed this life on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Berea, Ky.
She was born on January 24, 1920 in Wolf Creek, Ky. She was the daughter of the late William “Bob” and Nellie VanWinkle Barnett. She had been a 25+ year employee at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Ind. She was a member of Roundstone Baptist Church and found great joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. On May 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Charles Callahan who predeceased her in death, and from that union came three children: Hershel, Michael, and Loretta. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Those left to celebrate her life are her children: Michael (Cora) Callahan of Copper Creek, Ky; Loretta (Eddie) Lucas of Seymour, Conn.; and daughter-in-law: Joy Callahan VanZant of Brodhead, Ky. Her grandchildren: Hershel Dale (Brenda) Callahan II; Tammy (Bill) Mugglin; Christy (Paul) Carr; Michelle (Stacy) Hall and Tonya (Michael) Collinsworth. Her great grandchildren: Brent, Samantha, and Andrew Callahan; Joshua and Hannah Mugglin; Kristofer and Miranda Carr; Jacob and Caleb Collinsworth. Her brothers: Isaac (Eva Mae) Barnett of Paint Lick, Ky; and Bodie (Marjorie) Barnett of Mt. Vernon, Ky; As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.
Besides her husband, Charles Callahan, and parents, Bob and Nellie Barnett, she was preceded in death by a son: Hershel Dale Callahan I; a sister: Alta Philbeck and brothers: Eli and Edgar Barnett.
Visitation for Mrs. Margie Callahan will be Tues. May 17, 2016 from 6-9PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
Funeral services will be conducted Wed. May 18, 2016 at 1PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Randal Adams officiating; burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Ky.
