Ernest M. "Sarge" Mason, 83 of Mt. Vernon, passed away March 15th, 2017 at the St. Joseph Hospital, in London, Kentucky. He was born on June 19th, 1931 to the late Ernest & Zolpha (Vantium) Mason in Oakland, California. He was a retired Army Sargent 1st Class veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam War and he was also a retired worker of Okonite Cable. He was of the Christian faith and loved fishing. Ernest was also a member of the American Legion in London, KY. and VFW in Florida.
Those left to celebrate his life are: his son Laten Mason of Hazard, KY.; his grandchild Dillion Fields of AZ.; a brother James A. (Pat) Mason of CA; a step-brother Robert M. Miller of Sacramento, CA.; a half-brother Bill Miller of Oakland, CA.; half-sisters Virginia Ann Miller of Portland OR., and Diane (Mory) Owens of Virginia Beach, VA.; as well as many friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his wife Georgia B. Mason and his daughter Karen Mason.
At Ernest’s request, he was cremated.
