Elnora Burke

Mrs. Elnora S. Burke, age 92, of Brodhead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday September 21, 2016, at the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by family. Mrs. Elnora was born on October 1, 1923, to the late Eli Jackson Smith Sr. and Lucy Ousmus Masters in Slaty Branch, KY. On September 1, 1945, she was united in holy matrimony to Pete “P.J.” Burke Jr. and from that union came a child, John Douglas Burke.  Mrs. Elnora was a grade school teacher for 34 years and a sub for 10 years. She was a member of the Brodhead Christian Church, the Retired Teachers Association and the Thursday Club. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and yard mowing.

Those left to cherish her memory are: her son John Douglas (Sylvia Joy Biddle) Burke of La Grange, KY.; grandchildren Rebecca Joy Biddle Burke and Brett Alexander (Tina) Burke; a sister Pauline Thompson of Preachersville, KY.; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, and former students. 

Besides her parents Mrs. Burke was also preceded in death by her husband Pete "P.J." Burke Jr.

Visitation for Mrs. Elnora Burke will be held Saturday September 24th, 2016 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday September 25th, 2016 at the funeral home with Bro. Tracey Valentine officiating. Burial will follow at the Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead, KY.
