Mr. Lewis Edward Coffey, age 68 of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, husband of Barbara Coffey, passed away Friday January 3, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Coffey was born on August 18, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas, a son of William Lewis and Ethel Jones Coffey. He was a retired dairy farmer and a former Rockcastle County employee. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, 8th Air Strategic Command during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Brindle Ridge Baptist Church for over fifty years, and served as Sunday School Director for over forty years. Mr. Coffey was also a member of Gideon’s International and traveled to numerous churches in Central and Eastern Kentucky to deliver the Gideon message, and to raise money to buy Bibles. In addition, he was avid fan of sports. On August 22, 1970, he was united in marriage to Barbara Roundtree and from that union came four daughters.
Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife: Barbara Roundtree Coffey of Mount Vernon, Kentucky; Four daughters: Marilyn Coffey of Franklin, Tennessee, Melanie (Kyle) Childress of Brodhead, Kentucky, Marcia (David) Coffey of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Melinda (Matt) Finley of Richmond, Kentucky; Four grandchildren: Zachary and Makayla Coffey, Jack and Layla Childress; Four sisters: Doris (George) Wyatt of Berea, Kentucky, Virginia (Vernon) Sowder of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Nancy Coffey of Mount Vernon, Kentucky, Tammy (Jim) Clontz of Mount Vernon, Kentucky ; a step-mother-in-law: June Pollard Roundtree of Waynesburg, Kentucky and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends and neighbors.
Mr. Coffey was preceded in death by his parents: William Lewis and Ethel Jones Coffey.
Funeral services for Mr. Lewis Edward Coffey will be conducted on Tuesday January 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Brindle Ridge Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Ottawa Cemetery.
Visitation for Mr. Lewis Edward Coffey will be held on Monday January 6, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, and on Tuesday January 7, 2014 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Brindle Ridge Baptist Church.
