Ruth Ella (Burton) Owens

Ruth Ella Burton Owens age 86 of Somerset departed this life February 27, 2024, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 8, 1937, in Somerset, Kentucky to the late Grover and Mattie (Hurst) Burton.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, William Alfred (WA) Owens who she married September15, 1956, in Cincinnati Ohio. They were blessed with a son. Mark William Owens and wife Nancy of Somerset. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Ian Owens and wife Patricia and Tyler Owens. She took immense pride in her 3 great grandchildren, Alexzander, Elijah, and Ella Mae Owens.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ronnie, Carl and Lloyd Burton and a sister, Bernice Burton Cromer.

Ruth enjoyed working in her garden, canning, and was an amazing cook, preparing many delicious meals for her family. She greatly enjoyed working at Owens Garden Center arranging flowers for customers and family. She planted the first seeds and transplanted the first plants when the greenhouse first started in 1986.

Ruths life was anchored in her family. Showering love and attention on her grandchildren and great grandchildren was a priority in her daily life. She took the role of doting grandmother very seriously and “Mamaw Ruth” always kept a pan of brownies available to snack on following their many adventures. Her kindness, integrity, and devotion to her family will be forever cherished.

Ruth loved her family, and she loved her lord and savior. She was a faithful member of the Fairview Church of Christ for many years. We take comfort knowing she is resting in the arms of Jesus.

Ruth will be deeply missed by a host of family and friends that knew and loved her and will morn her passing. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of those fortunate to have known her.

Visitation will be held at Owens Funeral Home, Brodhead, Ky, Friday March 1 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be Saturday March 2 at Fairview Church of Christ 11am. Burial following at the Fairview Cemetery. Brothers Jonathon Barnett and Curt Herrington officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Somerset in memory of Ruth Owens.
