Ona Elizabeth Whitaker, age 89 of Mt. Vernon passed away on December 20th, 2017 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond surrounded by family. She was born on June 25th, 1928 to the late Chester & Eliza Ellen (Chasteen) Hysinger in Mt. Vernon. On November 17th, 1946 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Sam Whitaker and from that union came Judy, Phyllis, Marsha & Jeffrey. They enjoyed 31 years together before his passing in 1977. She loved being around people, hunting, fishing, gardening and animals.
Those left to celebrate her life are: her children, Judy Whitaker, Marsha (Glen) VanWinkle & Jeffrey Whitaker all of Mt. Vernon, KY; her grandchild Jeremy Smith; her great grandchildren Caden & Connor Smith; as well as many friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents and husband, Ona was preceded in death by a child, Phyllis Arlene Whitaker; and her brother Wayne Dean Hysinger.
Funeral Services for Ona will be conducted at 1PM on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12Pm until the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
