Ruby Deloris AlcornMarch 10, 1931 ~ July 27, 2017 (age 86)
Mrs. Ruby Deloris Alcorn, age 86, wife of Orville, passed away Thursday, July 27th, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on March 10th, 1931, to the late Clifford Dalmas & Birdie Leona (White) Marler in Quail, KY. She was a devout Christian all of her life as well as a Warrior of God. She enjoyed quilting for her children and grandchildren, gardening, cooking, playing miniature golf, and collecting dolls. She had obtained her GED through CAP and was named Valedictorian of her graduating class. She was a friend of Hal Rogers and had the guardrail put around Lake Linville and promoted the building of Mt. Vernon City Park. Ruby had also volunteered at the Christian Appalachian Project for over 40 years. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and President of the Adult Literacy Program for the State of Kentucky for two terms; and was also an Honorary Coach of the Lady Rockets as well as the number one fan of the Lady Rockets Basketball Team. Mrs. Ruby even hosted many hours on WRVK radio.
Those left to celebrate her life are: her husband, Orville Alcorn of Mt. Vernon, KY.; her children Edward “Eddie” Earl Alcorn of Mt. Vernon, KY., Judy Katherine (Ken) Jones of Knoxville, TN., Shelly Wayne (Laurie) Alcorn of Mt. Vernon, KY., Vernon Orville (Lynn Adams) Alcorn of Science Hill, KY., Cynthia Leona (Jeff Charles) Harms of San Tan Valley, AZ., Fred Walter (Jan) Alcorn of Livingston, KY., Rodney Kyle Alcorn of Mt. Vernon, KY., & Randall Keith (Cindy) Alcorn of Mt. Vernon, KY.; her 15 grandchildren; her 19 great grandchildren; her great great grandson; her half-sisters Armilda (Ernie) Barnes, Loretta Marler, Edith Fletcher, Dorothy Sizemore and Dalthie Winker; as well as her niece Loretta Marler and nephew Keith Marler, friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a child, Charles Jeffrey Alcorn and Brothers Walter Crawford Marler & infant Elvis Marler.
Visitation for Ruby will be held on Saturday, July 29th, 2017 from 4PM-8PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2PM on Sunday, July 30th, 2017 at the funeral home with Bro. Lonnie McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in Freedom Cemetery.
Casket Bearers will be Cynthia, Vernon, Ashley, Randy, Joseph & Fred.
