Mr. William Gobel “Jib” Hayes, age 80, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, March 26, 2018; the son of the late Gobel Clay Hayes and Pearl Clark Hayes. He was born August 10, 1937 in Renfro Valley, Kentucky.
William served in the United States Navy and the United States Marines Corps. It was in the Navy where he received the nickname Jib (the sail that sets ahead of the foremast of a sailing vessel). Jib was a Barber in Lexington, Kentucky for many years. He was also a Carpenter who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his Parents and his Brothers James, George Chan, Ernest, Earl, Norman, and Donald Ray; Sister Argie Bullock; Brothers-in-Law Raymond Bullock and Wayne Kirby; and Companion Hazel Renfro.
Those left to celebrate his life are his sisters Daisy Kirby (Joe) of Blanchester, Ohio and Anna Kirby of Lynchburg, Ohio. Many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors, including special niece, Norine Hayes Frith, and special nephew, Stanton Hayes.
A visitation service for William Gobel Hayes will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Christopher Truitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery.
