Mrs. Barbara Ann McKnight-Bishop, age 67, of Brodhead, Ky passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Barbara was born on October 8, 1955, in Lynch, KY, a daughter of the late Ulas & Cora Murphy. She was a devout Christian, a devoted wife, and an exceptionally loving Mother. She was a member of the Lynch Church of God and the Cumberland Pentecostal Church, where she sang in choirs, participated in Ladies’ Ministries, and taught Sunday School. Barbara spent many years as a schoolteacher at the Lynch and Victory Road Christian Academies. In middle age, she and Jim relocated to Brodhead, where she also worked in the Rockcastle County Education system until she retired. There she made new friends and became a valued member of her community. She loved connecting with people and making new memories. She found a new spiritual home as a member of the Northside Baptist Church. She was a mentor to young women and a Prayer Warrior. In her spare time, she loved watching the Hallmark Channel, planning get-togethers and spending time with her family. She loved the Beach, and her last trip was to Indian Rocks, Florida with her sons and Mark in 2021. Barbara had a zest for life and her fun-loving attitude was infectious. 

Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, high-school sweetheart, and father of her children: James A. McKnight. 

Barbara felt called to help people in need, and she cared for those she loved with the tenderness of a mother. She was a prayer warrior. She was Aunt Barbara.  She was a mentor. And she was a great friend. 

Barbara was such a great wife and Mom, the last couple years she found a new love, Bobby Bishop. She fell in love with Bobby and his beautiful family. She gained a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She loved her whole family and worked to bring them closer together. We are all so grateful for the time we were able to spend with her, together as a family.

Those left to celebrate her life are her husband: Bobby Bishop of Brodhead, KY; her children: Joshua McKnight & Mark Barker of Lexington, KY, and Travis McKnight of Mt. Vernon, KY; her stepchildren: Bobby Bishop, Jr. & Jacqueline and Jennifer White & Paul, all of Brodhead, KY; four grandchildren: Addy & Maddlyn White, Brooklyn Clements, and Dylan Bishop; two brothers: George Murphy & Barbara of Searcy, AR, and E.B. Murphy & Jane of Rose Pine, LA; a sister: Sandra Louise Thompson & Rick of Jacksonville, AL; her beloved dogs Bella and Peanut, and her cat Archie; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Services for Barbara will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, beginning with the visitation at 4pm, until the time of the funeral at 6pm, with Kenny Allen officiating. Cremation has been chosen, and will follow at a later time.
