Mr. Bennie Sanders, Sr. age 71 of Mt. Vernon, Ky. passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on December 17, 1945 in Big Stone Gap, Va., a son of the late Nathaniel and Otha Mae Neal Sanders. He was of the Baptist faith, who had previously been a Car salesman. He found great joy in golf, fishing and football. He played football during college and was drafted by the New York Jets as a quarterback.
Those left to celebrate his life are his children: Karyn Stewart of Chatanooga, TN; and Bennie Sanders, Jr. of Toronto, Canada; his companion: Phyllis Avery of Mt. Vernon, KY; his brothers: Nathaniel Sanders, Jr. of Chatanooga, TN, David Sanders of Columbia, NC. and Johnny Sanders of Houston, TX; his sisters: Debora Sanders of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Wanda Turnbough of Nashville, TN and Carolyn Turnbough of St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren: Anthony Broome, Kaylen Stewart, Blake Sanders Tobias and Jayce Sanders; his five great grandchildren. As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gracie Sanders.
A memorial service for Mr. Bennie Sanders, Sr. will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Sanders name to the American Cancer Society.
