Carolyn Jean Collins

Carolyn Jean Collins, 74, of Brodhead, KY passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, December 11th, 2025, in her home, surrounded by those she loved.

Carolyn is survived by her brothers Donald (Cherie) Collins, David (Wendy) Collins, Dennis (Linda) Collins, and Leroy (Linda) Collins; her children Bobbi Birney, Becky Birney, Richard (Suella) Birney, and Alison (James) Hughes; her grandchildren Lindsey Northern (Andrew Kaszowski), Raven Davis, Tristan Cox (Kiana Harris), Alyssa Cox (Andrew Burton), Ian Birney, Hunter Birney, and Zack (Courtney) Napier; and her great-grandchildren Easton Cromer, Taytum Sizemore, Jase Napier, Parker Napier, and her life long best friend Phyllis Shivel Zettler, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She is also remembered with love by her many dear friends in the Brodhead Girls Club and the Homemakers Club, whose companionship she treasured.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Verla Smothers Collins and Charlie Collins; her siblings Judee Collins Anderson, Chuck Collins, and William Collins; and her daughter, Melissa Birney.

Carolyn found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life-tending her garden, cooking for her family, and giving freely of her time. She volunteered at the Extension Office, served on the Library Board, and always looked for ways to support her community. After retiring from the Department of Transportation in London, she embraced a life centered on what mattered most to her: spending time with her family and continuing to help others.

She had a special love for hummingbirds and marked the first sighting of each spring on her calendar without fail. Carolyn enjoyed mysteries and delighted her children and grandchildren with birthday scavenger hunts that became cherished traditions. She also loved reading, quilting, and working puzzles-quiet pastimes that reflected her creativity, patience, and thoughtful spirit. No matter where she went, her favorite place was always “home sweet home.”

Carolyn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her kindness, warmth, and gentle presence will remain in the hearts of those she touched.

The family would also like to thank the many people who have helped during this difficult time with food, medical care, and friendship.

A celebration of life will be held at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals on Saturday, December 20th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
