Cecil Smith Obituary

Mr. Cecil Ray Smith age 75 of Mount Vernon passed away Saturday, June 22nd  at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Cecil Ray Smith was born August 23rd 1943 to James George and Ollie Frances Alcorn Smith. Cecil proudly served in the United States Air Force, earning several commendations during his two tours-of-duty in Vietnam.  During this eight year period, Cecil was awarded the following commendations:  Air Force Longevity Service Award, Vietnam Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster (2nd), and the Air Force Commendation Medal. 

As well as serving in the Air Force Cecil was a retired foreman in the shipping department for Trane Co. in Lexington, Kentucky. Cecil was united in marriage to his wife of 34 years Debbie Bunch Smith on June 22nd 1985. Mr. Smith is survived by: his wife: Debbie Bunch Smith of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; a daughter Susan Rae Smith Coffey (Anthony) of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. Four grandchildren Katherine Coffey, Cassie Smith, Kira Deatherage and Tyler Howard. One great grandchild Kady Coyle. Cecil was a member of the Wildie Christian Church. He also enjoyed spending time with family, watching UK basketball, sports, cooking, cars, and gardening .

Cecil is survived by three brothers Logan Smith of Ohio, Jr. Smith and (Bernice) of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Larry Smith and (Alice) of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. Two sisters Leatha Dailey and Francis Lindsay both of Ohio. As well as a host of friends and neighbors.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents James and Ollie Smith, a daughter Nicole Cotton, seven brothers and two sisters.

Casket bearers: Roger Dale Smith, Marvin Mink, Gary Prewitt, J.W. Bunch, Charles E. Bunch, and Ronnie Thompson. Honorary casket bearer; Owen Mink

Services for Mr. Cecil Ray Smith will be held Wednesday June 26  at the Marvin E. Owens Chapel visitation to start at 10 am with funeral to follow at 1pm with Brother Raymond Offutt and Anthony Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Maretburg Cemetery with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the VA Hospice Care.
