Daniel Robert Spence, age 76, departed this life on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, at Rockcastle Health and Rehab in Brodhead, Ky.
He was born on December 4th, 1949, in York, Penn, a son of the late James L. and Gladys (Hahn) Spence. Daniel was taken in by Milton Hershey School for Boys in 1958, and this is where he learned the art of Candy making from his mentor John Kish, and he graduated in the class of 1967. He then went on to graduate from Lancaster Bible College in 1979 and he moved to Kentucky. Daniel ran the Candy store at Renfro Valley for many years; this was one of his biggest passions and what he enjoyed most.
Those left to celebrate his life are his children; Sherry Hamm (Steve) of Mt Vernon, Julie Spence of Livingston, Kathy Doan (Chris) of Richmond, Michelle Spence (Chris) of Mt Vernon, his grandchildren; Dylan Spence, Emma, Makenna, and Mattilynn Stanley, his great grandchild: Gannon Spence, his brother: Ed Cook of California, his sister: Brenda Bahn of Pennsylvania.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his special companion: Dorothy Short (2021), his brothers: John Spence, Kieth Brubaker, his sister: Kathy Brubaker.
Daniel chose cremation with a memorial service to be held July 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Maretburg Baptist Church. Brother Ronnie Lee McClure officiating.
