David Collins Obituary

David Arnold Collins

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

David Arnold Collins passed away on August 5, 2026, at the age of 70. He was born on November 22, 1955, in Lockland, Ohio, to the late Charles Collins and Verla Smothers.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1983 to 1989 as a Marine Corpsman, receiving an honorable discharge. After his military service, he earned his certification as a Respiratory Therapist. He went on to teach respiratory therapy at Harry Sparks Vocational School before working in area hospitals. He later founded Collins Respiratory Care and fulfilled another dream by opening Brodhead Pharmacy, where he continued serving his community. One of his greatest joys was seeing his daughter, Amber, become a pharmacist and return home to serve alongside him at the pharmacy he built.

David was a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of his life. He loved the Lord, his family, and serving others. The last several years of his life brought many challenges, but they never slowed him down. After losing fingers on one hand and later losing an eye, he continued to live with courage, determination, and unwavering faith. He found strength in God’s promise: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31.

Known for his infectious smile and cheerful spirit, David loved singing, playing music, helping others, and spending time with his family. His children were his greatest pride, and he was always their biggest supporter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Collins and Verla Smothers; his sisters, Judy Collins and Carolyn Collins; and his brothers, Charles Collins and William Collins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Wendy Collins; his children, Amber Collins (Dakota Bishop), Landon Collins, Gabriella Collins, and Beth Collins; his brothers, Donald Collins (Cherie), Leroy Collins (Linda R.), and Dennis Collins (Linda L.); his lifelong best friends, Robert Lay and Ryan Riddle; and many extended family members, friends, and members of the community whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, with the funeral service immediately following.

Casket bearers will be Landon Collins, Amber Collins, Dakota Bishop, Donald Collins, Robert Lay, and Ryan Riddle.

David will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant’s heart, generosity, and perseverance. His legacy lives on through his family, the businesses he built, and the countless lives he touched.

Full Military Rites were performed by Rockcastle Color guard.
