Dora Elaine Arkel

Dora Elaine Arkel, age 74, departed this life on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at Hospice Compassionate Care of Richmond, Ky.

Dora, better known to some as Lainey or Nanny, was born on September 30th, 1951, in Hamilton, Ohio, a daughter to the late Andrew Arkel and the late Mattie Mink Reed. She was a granddaughter of the late Harvey and Hazel Mink. On February 28th, 1970, she married her partner of many years, Kenneth Sturgill. Dora was a long time member of Sand Hill Baptist Church where she loved helping with vacation Bible School and helped organize and put together several floats, as well as helping with Christmas Plays. She was a cook at Rockcastle County Schools making school lunches fun and tasty. She loved watching and listening to birds often times giving words to their chirps. She loved growing and tending to flowers. She loved spending time with family and friends especially her babies both big and small. 

Those left to celebrate her life are her husband: Kenneth Sturgill, her daughter: Vicki Harris (Ricky). Her grandchildren Dustin Sellers (Jessica), Brittany Sellers-Sutton (Colby), Allen Harris (Angel), Makenzie Sellers. Her great grandchildren; Trinnity Sellers, Aubrey Sellers, Bryleigh Gulley, Treyson Sutton, Taysean Sutton, River Sellers, Kayden Sellers. Her Sisters; Wanda Buckley, Judy Braden (Ken), Stacy Deleon, Theresa Benedict. Her Brothers; Montie Von Arkel, Andrew Arkel Jr. Her sister- in-laws; Bernice Harbinson, Darlene Durham, Donna Robbins, Sharon Wagner. Her brother-in-laws; Gerald Sturgill, Mike Sturgill, Roger Sturgill, Ronnie Sturgill.

Besides her parents Dora was proceeded in death by her sister, Margret Brewer. 

Visitation for Dora will be on Monday, July 27th, 2026 at Owens Chapel from 6-9pm. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, at Calloway Holiness Church at 2pm, Bros. Phillip Doan and Jason Medley officiating. Burial will follow at Kirby Cemetery.
