Dorsey Dewayne Kirkpatrick

It is with deep sorrow and abiding love that we announce the passing of Dorsey Dewayne "Wayne" Kirkpatrick, age 81. He passed away on Monday, June 8, at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, Kentucky.

Dorsey was born in Powell County, Kentucky, on June 13, 1944, to the late Dorsey Cooper Kirkpatrick and Effie Lee Walker Kirkpatrick.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Barbara G. Kirkpatrick (Skeens), with whom he shared 54 years of marriage; one son, James Michael Kirkpatrick (Dena) of Stanton, Kentucky; two daughters, Angie Espino (Leonel) of Dayton, Ohio, and Cassandra Kirkpatrick of Huber Heights, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Megan, Rachelle, Amanda, Jamison, Jasmine, Joshua, and Samantha; and five great-grandchildren, Vera Rose, Ivy Blair, Bentley, Sawyer, and Liam.

Wayne was a man who never met a skill he wasn't willing to learn. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, truck driver, mechanic, businessman, technician, computer builder, and problem-solver. He had an incredible ability to figure things out and was always eager to take on the next challenge. To those who knew him, it seemed there was very little he couldn't do. If he could dream it, he could be it.

He was a dog breeder who enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beloved beagles. He was also an avid ham radio operator who made friends around the world through the airwaves. A lifelong Kentucky Wildcats fan, his love for the team began at just seven years old when he sold programs at Wildcats games. He treasured time spent on Cave Run Lake and enjoyed sharing life's simple pleasures with family.

In his later years, Wayne devoted himself to studying the history of Christianity and developed a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His faith became an important part of his life and brought him peace, purpose, and hope.

Wayne will be remembered for his endless curiosity, strong work ethic, quick wit, and his determination to keep learning and growing throughout his life. He approached life with a willingness to try new things, solve problems, and embrace challenges, leaving behind countless memories and stories that will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Tracy Valentine on Saturday, June 13, at 5:00 p.m. at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, 148 West Main Street, Brodhead, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brodhead Christian Church, 237 West Main Street, Brodhead, Kentucky 40409.
