Evelyn Lou Mullins died December 10, 2023, peacefully while asleep at her home in Climax, KY on her 97th birthday.  Lou was born at home in Dayton, Ohio to James Mullins and June Phillips Mullins.  Lou had a brief history of teaching in the rural schools of Rockcastle County, KY.  She retired from the Climax post office after 30 years of service.  Lou was a member of the Climax Christian Church, and she was an avid reader from an early age and treasured the many books delivered to her by Pam Chaliff on her bookmobile visits to Climax.  Lou also loved gardening, and entertaining friends; she was a masterful at board games and crossword puzzles.  Lou was always delighted to be with her children and grandchildren.

Lou married Virgil Mullins on April 10, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, KY.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, to whom she was married 72 years, her parents, and her siblings, Helen, Rose, and James, all of Dayton, Ohio.

Lou is survived by her four children:  June Whitler (Elmer), Climax, KY; Shell Mullins (Lisa), Lexington, KY; Rose Brown (Cletis), Mt. Vernon, KY; and Liz Ann French (Garland), Climax, KY.  Brother-in-law Sam Mullins and three sisters-in-law Peggy Mullins, Becky Northern, and Virginia Mullins.  We give a special thanks to Lou’s grandson Brad Mullins and daughter Liz Ann for their loving care of our mother in her last years. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, plus a host of family and friends.
