Mr. Floyd Gabbard, age 83, of Brindle Ridge Rd., Brodhead, died Saturday August 10, 2019 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born October 29, 1935 in Jackson County, the son of the late Ted and Cora Roberts Gabbard. Floyd married Ruby Jean Cottengim on March 4, 1961, and from the union came two sons: Tracy Gabbard and Teddy Gabbard. He retired from Jackson County Rural Electric, now Jackson Energy, and was a farmer. He was a member and Deacon of Brodhead Baptist Church.
Survivors are his sons and daughter-in-law: Tracy (Tammy) Gabbard of Mt. Vernon and Teddy Gabbard of Williamsburg; three grandchildren: Ashley Gabbard (Matthew) Barker of Lexington, Deana Paige Gabbard and David Todd Gabbard of Mt. Vernon; two brothers: Garland Gabbard and Willard Gabbard of Jackson County; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Cottengim Gabbard; four brothers: Edmond Gabbard, Carlos Gabbard, Dennis Gabbard, and Billy Gabbard; and three sisters: Maxine Gabbard, Ada Marley, and Bertha Stevens.
Services for Floyd will begin with the visitation on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 6-9 pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals. Funeral will be Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 2 pm at Brodhead Baptist Church with Ralph Baker, and Shane and Mark Gabbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers will be David Gabbard, Matthew Barker, Phillip Gabbard, Ronnie Scott, Stephen Gabbard, David and Wayne Overbay, and Matthew Partin. Honorary casket bearers will be the Deacons of Brodhead Baptist Church, and the Men’s Sunday School Class of Brodhead Baptist Church.
