Fred Lee McClure, age 91 of Mt. Vernon, KY passed away December 16th, 2025, at Rockcastle Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 22nd, 1934, in Livingston, KY to Robert Lee and Bessie Shehan McClure, both of whom preceded him in death.
He married his only true love, Lorene Owens, on June 18th, 1955, and from that union came three children, Barry Lee McClure, Beverlee Lynne McGuire, and Cheryl Layne McClure. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lorene, his son Barry, two sisters Hazel Baker and Othia Mason, one brother Eddie B. McClure, and son-in-law Roger McGuire.
Fred is survived by his daughters Beverlee and Cheryl, daughter-in-law Janet Bussell McClure, brother-in-law Amos Junior Owens, seven grandchildren, Mickey, Dusty, and Tiffany McClure, Chris McHargue, Cherie Walker, Amber Watts and Brandon Falin, twelve great grandchildren, Chayse, Addison, Maddux, and Greyson McClure, Chance and Mia Walker, Khamya Watts, Owen, Bella, Carson, and Braxton Falin, and Richie Dickerson, and one great great granddaughter, Ava Branham and a host of nieces and nephews.
Fred proudly served his country in the US Army where he was stationed mostly in Anchorage Alaska, which he always remembered fondly. He was a graduate of Livingston School where he enjoyed spending most of his time playing basketball, one of his greatest passions. He passed on his love of sports to his entire family where he spent countless hours watching them fulfill their own love of the game.
Fred was known for being an extremely hard worker whether it was when he worked in construction, a factory, or farming which he did until he was over 80 years old. He raised pigs, chickens, horses, mules, and cattle, and planted many acres of gardens and tobacco fields. He also had a love of storytelling, whether it be reminiscing with his school buddies, picking on his work crew, or teaching everyone the “right way” to do something.
