James Morris Obituary

James “Jim” Len Morris died peacefully on Sunday, November 5, at the age of 75.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dolores Reppert Morris; his siblings, Rodger Morris and Lisa Hounshell; his children, Aimee Tackett, Kim Button, and Zack Morris; his bonus children, Rebecca Toy, Michael Albright, and Jessica Leith; his grandchildren, Madeline Toy, Ansley Toy, Avery Toy, Cooper Leith, Tate Button, Garett Button, Marissa Button, and Skylar Morris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Linzie Morris and Hazel Burdette, and his sister, Billie Sharon Hiers.

Jim was born on April 6, 1948 in Richmond, Indiana. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1966 and later enlisted as a Marine. Jim valiantly served his country in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Metal for distinguishing himself by heroic service.

Upon his return, Jim attended Eastern Kentucky University. He settled in Lexington, Kentucky, and after exploring career options, Jim found his career calling in truck driving. After almost thirty years behind the wheel, Jim retired in 2005 from Averitt Express to enjoy spending more time with his wife, volunteering at church, mowing his lawn, and watching his beloved Westerns.

Jim was a member of Maretburg Baptist Church. He’d previously served as a trustee at First Baptist Church and was active in AWANA.

While Jim was known to be a dedicated employee, hardworking, and loyal, his greatest impact was made through his loving contributions to his family. They remember him as a man of high standards with moral integrity, strong but humble, giving without reservation, faithful and loving with an always-positive perspective on life. When greeted by others and asked how he was doing, Jim was known for his cheerful disposition and honest response, “I’m fantastic.”

Pallbearers include Zack Morris, Michael Albright, Tate Button, Garett Button, CJ Tackett, and Skylar Morris. Honorary pallbearers include Rodger Morris, Paul Blevins, David Toy, and Kevin Button.

The family would like to thank all friends, family, caregivers, and members of the church community for their faithful support.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
