Jerry Norris Moore

Jerry Norris Moore passed away peacefully at his new home in Mt Vernon, Ky on Saturday, July 11th, 2026.

He was born on November 1st 1951, in Clarksville, TN to Charles Moore and Belva Hensley. He grew up in Paint Lick, KY with his three sisters and brother. He attended and graduated from Garrard County Highschool and worked on his grandaddy GW Calico's farm. He was widely regarded as a great tobacco cutter, and even once won a competition. He along with his sisters and brothers were baptized at Mt. Tabor Baptist in Garrard County.

He met and married his wife Ann Moore in Richmond, Ky. She claims that she couldn't get a single word in on their first date. They were married for 35 years. They had 3 children, and moved to Knott County, Ky in 1993 where they lived and raised their children for 20 years.

While in Knott County, Jerry served as deacon to the Caney Baptist Church in Pippa Passes, KY. He helped oversee the construction of the new church for the members of Caney Baptist and the Pippa Passes community and hosted many fish fries for the church. He caught most of the fish for dinner.

 Over his life, he had many jobs from farmer to construction worker. He has resurfaced just about every bridge in Central and Eastern Kentucky. While he was working on one of the bridges, and his sister, Nancy Melton, drove by and saw him. She ran through wet concrete to greet and hug him much to dismay of him and his coworkers. He retired in 2001 as the director of the Kentucky River Community Care in 2001 supporting the people of eastern Kentucky with substance abuse recovery.

 After all his kids finished high school he and Ann moved to Melbourne, FL. He spent his retirement fishing, tending to his garden, taking his dog on walks, and watching Kentucky basketball and football games. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and they would visit him in Florida every Christmas, and many more times. They called him Poppy.

 Towards the end of his life, they moved back to Kentucky to be closer to their family. He enjoyed sitting with Mimi (Ann) on their porch that his daughter and daughter's family built for them. He loved God, flowers, and his family. He was loved and will be missed.

 Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, James Davis. He is survived by his wife, his sisters Nancy Melton, Dora Sue Davis, and Mildred Moore, his brother Billy Hensley, his three children Rachel McFarland, Matthew Moore, and Joseph Moore, his three grandchildren Dalton Slone, Carl Jerry Collins, and Anthony Collins, and many other family members, in-laws, and friends. Funeral services will be held at Mt Tabor Baptist Church, Paint Lick KY on August 1, 2026, at 4pm.
