Jewel (DeBoard) Haarman

Mrs. Jewel (DeBord) Haarman, age 79, of Brodhead went home to be with the Lord on December 30, 2019 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, KY.

She was born on March 1, 1940 to the late Charles C. and Birdie Brummett DeBord.  On June 17, 1961 she was united in marriage to John Carl Haarman of Liberty, KY, her husband of 58 years. They had three children:  Donna Haarman, Michael (Ruby) Haarman, and Vickie Harrman, all of Brodhead, KY.  She has three grandchildren:  Stephanie (Travis) Richardson of Brodhead, KY, Natalie (Joe) Carter of Richmond, KY, and Casey Haarman of Brodhead, KY.  Three great-grandchildren:  Parker and Emma Richardson and John Carter.

Jewel worked at Cowden Manufacturing in Lancaster, KY and Mt. Vernon Manufacturing in Mt. Vernon, KY as a seamstress.  She loved cooking, gardening, flowers, sewing, camping, cookouts, and spending time with family and friends.  She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved reading and studying her Bible, taking care of and comforting others.  She spent the last 60 years writing her pen pal and friend, Viola (Richard and family) Ault of Piqua, OH.

She was a member of the Brodhead Baptist Church, she was a GA, Acteens leader, and WMU director.  She was a much loved Sunday School teacher of the ladies of the church.  She also taught Sunday School at the Sowder Nursing Home. 

She is survived by two sisters:  Marie (Carl) Alsip of Cincinnati, OH, and Birdie Albright of Mt. Vernon, KY; one brother:  Alfred (Hazel) DeBoard of Williamsburg, OH; four sisters-in-law:  Betty Lou DeBoard of Williamsburg, OH, Carol DeBoard of Brodhead, KY, Hazel Weddle of Liberty, KY, and Edith Haarman of East Moline, IL; as well as many family and friends. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers:  Delbert (infant), Felix DeBord, Arthur DeBord, Sam Deboard, and Johnny DeBoard; and her sisters:  Pearlie (Child), Myrtle Howard, Rena Osborne, Lula Ann Wallin, and Betty Moore.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 6-9pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.  Funeral service will take place on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11 am at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Jack Weaver officiating.  Burial will take place in the Piney Grove Cemetery.  Casket bearers are:  Casey Haarman, Joe Carter, Travis Richardson, Ricky Thompson, Donnie Wallin, and Jerry DeBoard.
