John Curtis York

John Curtis York, age 43, departed this life on Monday, July 6th, 2026, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ky.

John was born on January 31st, 1983, in Mt. Vernon, Ky. A son to  Gail Benge Messer and stepfather Scott Messer.

John was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed Gardening, Dancing, making people laugh, watching T.V. and movies, but most of all aggravating and spending time with family and friends.

Those left to celebrate his life are his parents; Gail and Scott Messer of Brodhead, his son: Damion Curtis York of Lexington, his brothers; James Christopher Benge of Brodhead, Joshua David Benge of Brodhead. His special aunts: Christina (Michael) Pavon of Brodhead, Ky, Lisa Rogers, and Kelly Denney of Brodhead.  His uncle, James Hacker, Jr. (Stephanie) of Crab Orchard, Ky.  His grandmother, Neville Hacker of Crab Orchard, Ky.  As well as a host of cousins, nieces/nephews, friends and neighbors.

John was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmy Hacker; his uncles, Dewayne Denney "Uncle Doodie", Wayne Benge.  His cousins: Elizabeth Sinner, Jeffrey Allen Shivel and Rachael Clark.

A Celebration of Life for John will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 1PM at Piney Grove Cemetery with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating.
