Juanita (Stevens) Cloud

Juanita Stevens Cloud, daughter of Colson and Anna Emerick Stevens, was born December 31, 1932. She was known as Wink to her siblings and Winkie to a host of nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Brodhead High School and Eastern Kentucky University. After high school she worked as a dental assistant for two years in Rochester, Minnesota, and Buffalo, New York, before attending Eastern Kentucky University. She began her teaching career in rural schools of Rockcastle County.

On December 27, 1958 she was married to Joe M. Cloud at Ottawa Baptist Church. She moved to Hollywood, Florida where Joe was teaching school. Their son Dwight Emerick Cloud was born there in November 1959. Juanita and Joe returned to Northern Kentucky in 1961 where their daughter “Meg” Margaret Joe Cloud was born in 1963. Juanita taught school in the Cincinnati Public School System before retiring in 1989.

She was an active member of the Erlanger Baptist Church and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

She returned to Rockcastle County in 2012 where she has been actively involved in the community and Brodhead Baptist Church. She was a member of the WMU, the Thursday Club, The Noah Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She often cooked for community groups such as Celebrate Recovery and the Bereavement Committee. She enjoyed fishing, reading, and gardening, but her greatest passion was spending time with her siblings, her children, and grandchildren.

Besides her parents Juanita was preceded in death by four siblings: Joyce Colson Stevens, Kathleen Stevens Mendez McLaurin, JoAnn Reusch, and Danny Ray Stevens.

Juanita is survived by her children: Dwight (Laura) Cloud, Meg (Stephen) Bailey; seven siblings: Don (Teet) Stevens, Virginia Broaddus, Jan (June) Stevens, Iris (Joe) Young, Patricia (Herman) Blair, Loretta Rowe, and Rex Stevens, and one sister in-law: Jill Phyllis Stevens.

Graveside services for Juanita Cloud will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 1 P.M. at the Maretburg Cemetery.
