Leonard "Red" Bishop Obituary

Mr. Leonard Donald Bishop, of Brodhead, Kentucky passed from this life on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the age of 88 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully within his home in Brodhead, KY with his beloved wife Dorothy and family by his side.

Leonard was born on February 6, 1932 in Brodhead, KY to George Grant Bishop and Pauline Ellen Brummett Bishop.  As a boy, he helped his parents in their grocery store and on the farm.  He worked in construction and sold and delivered produce.

Leonard and Dorothy Marie Cash were married July 20, 1957.  From that union, they started a family. Together they had six children:  Timothy Lynn, Mark Anthony, Peggy Sue, Pamela Marie, Leigh Ann, and an infant son who died at birth.  Leonard was a hard worker and provided for his family.

Known to many as Red, he was a talker and loved to tell stories.  He had a love for bicycles and flea markets.  He knew how to wheel and deal to get a bargain. All the children in the neighborhood knew to go to Red’s if they needed their bicycle fixed.  He and Dorothy would travel to many places to go to flea markets.  He could bring home a bicycle he bought for $1, fix it up and resell it for sometimes over one hundred dollars.

Later on, as life settled down and things got slower, Leonard loved to spend time with his family.  He would take his great grandchildren on golf cart rides or sit on the couch telling stories.  Leonard was very proud of his family.

Leonard was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Brodhead Baptist Church.  He was baptized by Brother Luther Allen and they remained friends until his death.  He enjoyed listening to sermons by Brother Ralph Baker.

Leonard was a strong, proud, and good man.  He is loved and will be missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his parents:  George Grant Bishop and Pauline.  His brothers Delbert and Elmer.  His sisters:  Rosemary Wilson, Dessie Moberly, Bonnie Bradley, and two sons:  Timothy Lynn and an infant son who died at birth.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Marie Cash Bishop of Brodhead, KY. Siblings:  George Jr., Bishop of Brodhead, KY, June Hutcherson of Frankfort, KY, Beulah Broome of Louisville, KY, and Nina Cummins of Somerset, KY. His children:  Mark Bishop (Audrey) of Mt. Vernon, KY, Peggy Allen (Jerry) of Brodhead, KY, Pamela Cash of Brodhead, KY, and Leigh Ann VanWinkle (Ralph) of Mt. Vernon, KY. His five grandchildren:  Natasha Hubbard, Skyler Bradley, Quincy Allen, Ashley Reynolds, and Kayla Silcox.  Two step-grandchildren:  Nicole and Dalton VanWinkle.  Ten great-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.  Two sisters-in-law:  Alma Jean Cable and Geraldine Cash. A host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

His final resting place will be at Providence Cemetery.
