Mattie Christine (Denny) Kirby

Mattie Christine Kirby age 96 of Mt. Vernon, KY passed away Tuesday February 14, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Mt. Vernon, KY.

Mattie was born July 23, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, KY to the late George and Rebecca (Jones) Denny. She was of the Christian faith and loved watching hummingbirds and spending time with her family and grandkids. Mattie loved her children and grandchildren more than life. She was the lady that always would be there when needed. She married Sherman Earl Kirby and from that union came eight children:  Gary, Dallas, Billy, Junie, Charles, George, Clarence, and Barbara.

Those left to celebrate her life are her children:  Barbara Vance, Charles Kirby (Linda), George Kirby (Donna), and Clarence Kirby, all of Mt. Vernon, KY; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephew, friends, and neighbors.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Sherman Earl Kirby; four children: Gary Kirby, Billy Kirby, Junie Kirby, and Dallas Kirby; one grandson:  Charles James Kirby; one great granddaughter Whitney Nicole Vance and all of her siblings.

Services for Mattie Christine Kirby will be held at the Chestnut Ridge Church of God in Jesus Name. Visitation will be Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 6-9pm and again on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 11am until time for the funeral service at 2pm with Bro James Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery. Casket bearers are Johnny Kirby, Carl Wayne Pittman, Matt Combs, Phillip Kirby, Zack McClure, and Cyrus Morehead.
