Melinda Sue (VanWinkle) Cromer

Melinda Sue (VanWinkle) Cromer, age 79, of Mt. Vernon, KY, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY.

Sue was born on April 11, 1943, in Berea, KY, a daughter of the late Aster and Martha Jane VanWinkle. She was united in holy matrimony on April 9, 1966, to Glen Cromer, and they enjoyed over 50 years together prior to his passing in January 2022. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and most of all spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Those left to celebrate her life are her four daughters: Kimberly Ann Singleton & Derrick of Mt. Vernon, KY, Krista Lynn Owens & Shaun of Brodhead, KY, Kelli Sue Asher & Brent of Brodhead, KY, and Shannon Osborne Perkins & Rob of Brodhead, KY; ten grandchildren: Evan Singleton & Carolyn, Julianna Cooper & Jonah, Jayna Elisabeth Singleton, Isabella Singleton, Harrison Owens, Samuel Owens, Aaron Asher, Isaac Asher, Lilyanna Sue Asher, and James Osborne Perkins; two brothers: Glen VanWinkle & Marsha of Mt. Vernon, KY, and Alvin VanWinkle & Sue of Paint Lick, KY; a sister: Brenda Harris & Jimmy of Berea, KY; as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Glen Cromer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sue’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Services for Sue will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, beginning with the visitation at 4pm, until the time of the funeral service at 6pm, with Dennis Wilder officiating. A private burial will be held at Cresthaven Cemetery.
