Ms. Melinda Kate Poynter, age 54, of Mt. Vernon, KY, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY.

Melinda was born on October 3, 1964 in Connersville, IN, to the late William (Bill) Sterling, and Cheryl Sterling. Melinda was a retired Nursing Assistant/Unit Secretary at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital where she enjoyed her work. She was also a member of the Roundstone Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and church family. She enjoyed reading her Bible, feeding the birds, working with her flowers, sewing, and playing with her grandchildren.

Those left to celebrate her life are her husband of 13 years: Thomas “Tucker” Poynter of Mt. Vernon; four children: Joshua (Tasha) Ramsey, of Mt. Vernon, Jessica (Aaron) Stallsworth of Mt. Vernon, Cassandra (Chad) Sparkman of Mt. Vernon, and Mourine (Jordan) Smith of Morehead, KY; two step-children: Tommy (Tasha) Poynter, and Tammy (Nathan) Boggs, both of Mt. Vernon, KY; sixteen grandchildren: Kimhari, Jackson, Xavier, Maryanna, and Kaelyn Stallsworth, Jaydin and Nikki Sparkman, Adley and Hayden Ramsey, Ashlee and Sophia Smith, Felicia (Joseph) Doan, Megan (Derick) Yates, and Logan and Kelsey Jett; six great grandchildren: Alana, Elijah, Dustin, Brooklynne, Asa, and one due in March 2020; her mother: Cheryl Sterling, of Mt. Vernon, KY; her step-mother: Darla Sterling, of Nappane, IN; five brothers: James Sterling of Milford, IN, Bradley Sterling of Elkhart, IN, Gabe (Shelly) Sterling of Wakerusa,IN, Michael and Phil Sterling of Pelham, AL, and Chase Sterling of Napanee, IN; two sisters: Teresa (Randy) Bricker of Elkhart, IN, and Lauri (Alex) Casillas of Elkhart, IN; and her lifetime best friend and God Mother to her children: Beverly (Jim) Hobbs of Salem, IN.

Services for Mrs. Melinda Poynter will be Sunday at the Roundstone Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm with the funeral at 2pm with Bros. Jamie Hamilton and Luther Allen officiating.
