Melissa Carol Birney, lovingly known as Missy, passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 55.
Born to James Douglas Smith and Carolyn Collins, Missy was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Collins of Brodhead, KY; her beloved son, Ian Birney, and his significant other, Laura Shively, of Mackville, KY; her siblings, Bobbi Northern, Becky Birney Hardwick, Alison Hughes and her husband James, and Richard Birney and his wife Suella, all of Brodhead; and her special cousins, Shonna Durham and her husband Donavon of Mt. Missy was known for her intelligence, kindness, and beauty, but above all, for her unwavering loyalty as a friend. She had a heart that welcomed everyone, a spirit that uplifted those around her, and a presence that could light up any room. She was a devoted and special aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, always showing them love, encouragement, and laughter. She was also deeply loved by her aunts and uncles, who cherished the joy and warmth she brought into their lives. Her beloved dog, Chico, was always by her side, bringing her comfort and companionship.
Cremation has been chosen, and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
