Merville Brown Obituary

Mr. Merville Brown, age 77, of Mt. Vernon, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his residence.

Merville was born on February 21, 1944, in London, KY, a son of the late Dewey Brown, and Ruby Reams. He was inducted into the US Army on January 24, 1968, and proudly served his country for over 6 years. He was united in marriage to Rita Stewart on August 19, 1970. He was of the Baptist faith; a proud member of the Rockcastle County VFW; and enjoyed horseback riding, go-carts, and dirt track racing.

Those left to celebrate his life are his wife: Rita Stewart Brown of Mt. Vernon, KY; his children: Melony (Brian) Wynn of Orlando, KY, Merrill Brown of Mt. Vernon, KY, Amy (Eric) Philbeck of Mt. Vernon, KY, Merita (Jamie) Medley of Orlando, KY, and Phillip Durham of Ohio;  grandchildren: Jason and Jonathon Raider, Aaron and Austin Brown, Christopher Philbeck, Hunter and Hayden Medley and Rebecca Renee Durham; two great-grandchildren: Willis Keith and Tristan Wade Brown; five brothers: Mark (Jennifer) Brown of Mt. Vernon, KY, Marshall (Kelley) Brown of Tampa, FL, Ernest (Sandy) Slavey and Kenny Blackwell both of Oregon, and Jackie (Wanda) Navarre of Orlando, KY; four sisters: Molly (Jim) Cantrell of Crossville, TN, Tina (Leon) Hahn of Garden City, KA, Jean (Charlie) Witlock of Danville, KY, and Karen (Ben) Hichcock of CA; as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother Merrill Brown, a brother Cecil Brown, and a sister Kathy Carpenter.

Services for Mr. Merville Brown will be held at Flat Rock Baptist Church, beginning with the visitation on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 6-9pm. Funeral will be Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 1pm, with Jason Medley officiating. Burial will follow in the Briarfield Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Aaron and Austin Brown, Jason and Jonathaon Raider, Hunter Medley, and Chris Philbeck, with Hayden Medley as an Honorary casket bearer.
