Mike Smith

James Michael Smith was born March 9,1960 the son of James O. Smith and Anna Lee Durham Smith. Mike departed this life on October 27, 2020.

Mike was born 2 months early, weighing only 3 Pounds. He lost down to 1 lb. 12 oz. He was such a miracle because at that time all the modern advances for premature babies were non-existent. Mike was welcomed home by two sisters, Vickie Lynn, and Sherry Lou.

When he was able to leave the hospital, his mother kept him upstairs to keep him from getting the flu and other diseases. Mike attended First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon. Mike loved the Lord. He loved listening to Charles Stanley and John Hagee. On Friday nights he enjoyed good gospel music. Mike had a wit that would have put him on stage at a comedy theatre.

Mike coached his nephews, sons, and daughters in baseball and basketball. Mike was a great baseball and basketball player. Mike retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Mike's dream for retirement was to buy a small farm in Florida or Texas, move there, and enjoy a simple life.

On July 12, 1988 Mike married Rhonda Roark.

Mike is survived by his wife Rhonda and five children: Krystal Ann, Victoria Lee, Jesse Whitley, Charles Michael, and James Bryce. He loved his children so very much. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by his mother Anna Lee Durham Smith, and his sisters Vicki Arnold and Sherry Webb (Bobby).  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father James O. Smith, his maternal grandparents Matt and Maggie House Durham, his paternal grandparents James W., and Lou Rimmel Smith.

With Mikes passing the world became a whole lot darker. He will be missed more than words can express, however now he is resting safe in the arms of his Savior.

Visitation for Mike Smith will be Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals from 11A.M. to 2P.M. Funeral services will be Friday, October 30, 2020 at 2P.M. at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals Chapel with Bros. Shannon Franklin and Luther Allen officiating. Casket bearers are David Dees, Charles, Bryce, and Jesse Smith, Blake Arnold, Matt Sowder, Mike Burdette, Paul Nicely, Mike Alcorn, Jerry Dick, Herman Smith, Robbie Lay, Neal Sluder, Ronnie Roark, and Bobby Webb.
