Rick Carl Schmitter

Eric (Rick) Carl Schmitter age 69, of Mt Vernon, KY passed away on September 10th, 2024, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born on June 25th, 1955, in Atco, NJ. A son to the late Wolfgang W. and Dorothy Schmitter.

On May 2nd, 2015, he married Janie Schmitter (Kirby). Rick was a loving father, devoted husband, and provider. Rick worked and retired from UPS with over 30 years service as a skilled diesel mechanic (Lexington, KY). He loved tinkering and working on anything with an engine and wheels. Rick was a gifted craftsman that could repair anything with great attention to detail. Rick thought the world of his children and grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.  

He is survived by his wife: Janie Schmitter, His children; Lori Price of Somerset, Travis Schmitter of Danville, Eliza Barnett of Mt Vernon, Bobby Kirby of Mt Vernon, Glenna Isaacs of Jackson Co., Grandchildren; Jakob and Bradley Fisher, Keaton Loveless, Callie and Sophia Schmitter, Dakota and Makinlee Kirby, Dustin and Chelsea Barnett, Andrew and Blake Issacs. Great grandchildren; Jensen Fisher, Weston Loveless, Brayden and Gage Barnett. One brother: William (Billy) Schmitter.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers; Ronald, Dennis, John and David Schmitter.

Visitation for Mr. Schmitter will be Monday, September 16th, at Marvin Owens Chapel from 1-3pm, followed by funeral service at 3pm with Bro. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will be at Kirby Cemetery in Chestnut Ridge.

Casket bearers; Travis Schmitter, JR Thompson, Jakob Fisher, Bradley Fisher, Keaton Loveless and Dakota Kirby. Honorary casket bearers; Andrew and Blake Isaacs.
