Ron was born March 17, 1935, in Lima, Ohio, the son of Arthur and Georgianna Johnson. He graduated from Oneida Baptist Institute (high school) and remained a supporter of the school and stayed in touch. He married Maxine Holman on March 5, 1960. He represents the last of a rich line of family members in his passing. The family, along with many friends, has lost a caring and giving man. His passions were his family, carpentry, doing projects for his family and friends, and trips to the Smokey Mountains and Townsend. His shop was his favorite place which he built and was known to be found. He loved special occasions like birthdays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, with the whole family together sharing photos, stories, etc. His care for family, simplicity and helping others will be missed.
Upon graduation from high school, Ron joined the Navy. Afterwards, he worked several jobs before joining Genesco in Kentucky followed by a brief stint in Mississippi and then Nashville. He also worked as a maintenance supervisor at his church in Nashville for several years, and finally at a family friend’s children’s shoe store until retiring. He spent his last years with his wife, Maxine, who had Alzheimer’s and was in memory care until her death in December 2020. He also loved to sing hymns and could still occasionally be overheard singing there.
Those who will miss him most include his three sons, Mark, Steve and his wife, Camelia, and Jonathan and his wife, Heather, and his grandchildren Javier, Tatyana, Sage, and Zane whom he loved. Being the last of his siblings who preceded him in death, he represents a lot of family history enjoyed by his many nieces and nephews he always enjoyed seeing.
He is reunited in Heaven with wife, his parents, siblings, and his grandparents and many others who have provided rich memories for surviving family members.
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
