Sandra Lynne Whitaker, age 56, passed away on June 12, 2024. She was known as Sandy to all who knew her and was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Everyone who met Sandy was met with genuine friendliness and care and to those who knew her best there was no one more willing to put the needs of others before her own.  She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and served God through her work with the church teaching youth classes, leading special events at the church, and worshiping with her friends and neighbors.  

Sandy was a staple at the Rockcastle Soil Conservation District where she worked for 25 years and touched many lives.  She did a great deal of work to support the farmers and landowners of Rockcastle County to help them with improving and developing agricultural projects.  She was also a dedicated farm wife and did all the necessary jobs to help run a successful farm including everything from setting tobacco to working cattle to cooking for workhands.  Sandy was active in the Rockcastle Homemakers and enjoyed the hobbies of sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, traveling, and cooking for her family and friends.  Her family was particularly fond of her macaroni & cheese, soup beans & cornbread, banana pudding, and strawberry pies.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Harold Whitaker of Mt. Vernon, as well as three children Matthew (Hillary) Whitaker of Brodhead, Emily (Chuck) Bullock of Mt. Vernon and Ben (Starla) Whitaker of Mt. Vernon. Additionally Sandy had nine grandchildren, Jackson Whitaker, Madelyn Whitaker, Cameron Bullock, Caleb Bullock, Chloe Bullock, Sophie Bullock, Hadley Bullock, Barrett Bullock and Beatrice Whitaker, whom she absolutely adored. They referred to her as their “Nongie” and they returned every ounce of love she gave them. Sandy is also survived by a sister, Jeannie Gabbard of Brodhead, and three brothers, Tommy (Donna) Lunsford of Brodhead, Donnie Lunsford of Brodhead and Mark (Teresa) Lunsford of Brodhead as well as two very special Friends Helen Faye Abney and Teresa Vanzant and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Raymond and Edith Lunsford.

Visitation will be held at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals in Brodhead, KY on Sunday June 16 2024 from 6 to 9 pm and the funeral service will also be at Owens’ on Monday June 17 at 11am. Pallbearers are Jeffery Albright, Warren Whitaker, Cameron Bullock, John Lawson, Steve Lunsford and Andrew Laswell. Brother Barry Hurst will officiate the service.

Sandy Whitaker was a very very special lady who was loved by all who knew her.  Those she leaves behind will miss her dearly every day.
