Thomas "Tucker" Poynter

Thomas “Tucker” Laney Poynter, age 67, of Mt. Vernon, KY, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at his residence.

Tucker was born on December 23, 1954, in Berea, KY, a son of the late Warren and Nora Dees Poynter. He volunteered as a fire fighter for the Brindle Ridge Fire Department; and enjoyed working as a farmer and a butcher. He was a member of the Roundstone Baptist Church, and spent his free time fishing, making sausage, and gardening.

Those left to celebrate his life are his children: Thomas “Tommy” Laney Poynter, Jr., Tammy Renay Boggs & Nathan of Frankfort, KY, Joshua Ramsey & Tasha of Mt. Vernon, KY, Jessica Stallsworth & Aaron of Mt. Vernon, KY, Cassandra Sparkman of Somerset, KY, and Mourine Smith & Jordan of Morehead, KY; 17 grandchildren: Felica Doan & Michael, Megan Yates & Derrick, Billy Boggs, Kelsey and Logan Jett, Kimhari, Jackson, Xavier, Maryanna, and Kayti Stallsworth, Jace, Adley, and Hayden Ramsey, Ashlee and Sophia Smith, and Jaydin and Shania “Nikki” Sparkman; 6 great-grandchildren: Alana, Elijah, and Teddy Doan, and Dustin, Brooklynne, and Asa Yates; two brothers: Douglas Poynter of Berea, KY, and Kevin Poynter & Debbie of Mt. Vernon, KY; four sisters: JoAnn Croucher of Mt. Vernon, KY, Betty Kemper & John of Berea, KY, Fran Gabbard & Robert of Mt. Vernon, KY, and Janice Ingram & Jeff of Mt. Vernon, KY; as well as a numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda Kate Poynter; and two siblings: Warren “Razz” Virgil Poynter, and Raymond Wendall Poynter.

A memorial service for Thomas “Tucker” Laney Poynter will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, beginning with the visitation at 12pm, followed by the service at 1pm, with Jack Stallsworth officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Tucker to the Brindle Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
