Virgil Hopkins, Jr.

Mr. Virgil Hopkins, Jr. age 77 of Brodhead, KY passed away Friday March 11, 2022, at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, KY.

Virgil was born April 6, 1944, in Berea, KY to the late Virgil and Dollie Marie (Denny) Hopkins Sr. He was a member of the Olive Branch Church, and enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren, playing cards, and hanging out with friends behind the Dairy Delight in Brodhead. He married Stella Taylor on October 16, 1962, and they enjoyed 39 years together before her passing in 2001.

Those left to celebrate his life are his daughter:  Holly Jayne Mullins and husband Shay of Brodhead, KY; two grandchildren:  Steven Coty Childress and wife Courtney of Richmond, KY, Patrick Tanner Childress of Brodhead, KY; three great-grandchildren:  Patrick Deckard Childress, Charleigh Lyn Childress, Liam Rhett Stigall-Childress; four brothers:  Mike Hopkins of Brodhead, KY, Robert Hopkins and wife Teresa of Brodhead, KY, Tim Hopkins and wife Dina of Brodhead, KY, Bruce Hopkins and wife Betsy of Brodhead, KY; five sisters:  Peggy Hopkins of Brodhead, Judy Mize of Brodhead, KY, Jenny Miller and husband Ricky of Brodhead, KY, Doris Smith and husband Ricky of Mt. Vernon, KY, Donna Poynter and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon, KY; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Stella Hopkins; three brothers:  Roger Dale, Charles Eddie, and Donald Ray Hopkins; one brother-in-law:  Homer Mize; one nephew:  Eric Keith Smith; his maternal grandparents:  John and Sally Denny; and his paternal grandparents:  George and Lula Hopkins.

Visitation for Virgil Hopkins Jr. will be held Monday, March 14, 2022, from 6-9pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 2pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bros. Shannon Parkerson and Toby Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Ottawa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Donnie Ray Moberly, Shannon Mize, Chris Bishop, Brandon Bishop, Josh Smith, and Scotty Hopkins. Honorary casket bearers are Donald Ray Hopkins, Jr., Shane Hopkins, Josh Moberly, Sean Moberly, Timothy Hopkins, Bruce Hopkins, Jr., Dalton Hopkins, Eli Hopkins, R.J. Hopkins, and Michael Hopkins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Virgil to the Olive Branch Church.
