Vivian Marie Torkelson left us to be with the Lord on Aug. 28, 2025. She was 88 years old. She was born on July 10, 1937, in Corcoran, California, to Grady and Estelle Reeves.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Duane Torkelson; her son, Mark Torkelson; and siblings, Mac, Louise, Janie, Jean and Andy.
Vivian is survived by many loving family members. Her children, Debra Stevens, Billy Torkelson and Dell Stevens; grandchildren, Shon Lindquist, Cory Furrow, Ashley Stevens, Charles Pluard, Guy Pluard and Jake Pluard; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Branden Bailey, Ryan and Sarah Anderton, and Lauren and Lacie Pluard; and great-great-grandchildren, Aria Lindquist and Marshall Bailey.
Vivian worked at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with the culinary team for many years. She made many friends and enjoyed her work immensely. After living in Fairbanks for many years, Vivian and Duane began to snowbird between Fairbanks, Alaska, and Renfro Valley, Kentucky, eventually making Kentucky a permanent home. Vivian came back to Alaska to be with her family after her husband's passing.
Vivian was loving and kind-hearted. She truly was the definition of one-of-a-kind. She could always make you smile. Vivian enjoyed puzzles, oil painting, sewing and quilting, cooking, traveling and most of all spending time with her family. Her faith in the lord and love for her family was forever strong. Vivian will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Comfort is found knowing she is in heaven with the lord and her loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 1420 Moore St. in the Community Room Anchorage, Alaska.
Burial will take place at Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead, KY
