Walter Lee Cash

Mr. Walter Lee Cash, age 91, of Brodhead, Ky. departed this life Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, Ky.

He was born on December 28th, 1934, in Brodhead, Ky., the son of the late Arch and Artie Payne Cash. On April 22nd, 1955, he married Christeen Blanton Cash and from that union came one child, Jerry Lee “Hooch” Cash.

Walter loved the Lord and was a Christian and a member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Church. Walter was a man of many talents. From 1957 to 1959 Walter served his country in the US Army. He worked at Parker Seal in Berea for 35 years, he then took on the job of Mayor of Brodhead for 23 years (longest serving Mayor in KY), he loved his job and he loved Brodhead and the people. Walter was a skilled electrician and would often do electrical work in people’s homes and would never take a dime for his labor. As Mayor of Brodhead Walter would often use his own personal equipment to do work for the city, once again he would not take a dime for his labor. Walter was instrumental in opening and maintaining the Little World’s Fair for many, many years. There was many a garden plowed by Walter throughout Brodhead every year, once again, Walter would not take a dime. Walter had a servant’s heart and where there was a need, he was always looking to fill that need. It is impossible to explain the impact Walter had on the community of Brodhead in this obituary, but he will be dearly missed by all.

Walter is survived by his wife of 71 years; Christeen Blanton Cash, his siblings Vernon “Mush” Cash of Brodhead, Ethylene Cash Holbrook of Brodhead, as well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, brothers-in-laws, sister- in- laws, friends and neighbors.   

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Jerry Lee “Hooch” Cash, his siblings; Viola Houston, Eddie Cash, Lloyd Cash, Shelby Jean Abney, Paul Ray Cash, Melberta Robbins, Preda Shepherd, Anna Elizabeth Cash. His father and mother in-law, Carsel and Doxie Blanton, whom he affectionately called Mom and Pap.

Casket bearers are; Howell Holbrook Jr, Frank Bradley, Bill Bradley, Steve Sebree, Eddie and Rodney Blanton. Honorary casket bearers are; Jeff Cash, Jim Cash, Vernon “Mush” Cash.

Visitation for Walter will be Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at Owens Chapel, from 12PM until 4PM. Funeral service will begin at 4PM with Bros. Randall, Scott Adams and Paul Holbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery.
