Dale L Bray

July 16, 1926 ~ September 22, 2015 (age 89) 89 Years Old


Dale L. Bray, age 89, of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky passed away September 22, 2015 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.  He was born July 16, 1926 in Cody, Wyoming.  His mother was Bertha Hensley Owens and his father was Ben Bray.  His mother and he resided with family in Cody until they moved back to Rockcastle County to his grandmother’s farm located in the Spiro community where he attended elementary school at Freedom and then onto Mt Vernon High School.  After high school he volunteered for the US Army having served during World War II in the 11th Airborne Division in Japan and the Philippines.  After his military service he served as a Kentucky State Trooper for approximately 7 years.  In 1955 he took a position with the Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance Company as a claims adjustor where he worked until he retired in 1987 after 32 years of service.  His hobbies included golfing on a daily basis and watching UK basketball and the Cincinnati Reds.

On February 3, 1948 he was married to Aslee Whitehead Bray and from that union three sons Ronald, Roger and Richard were born.  He and the family resided in the Maretburg community of Rockcastle County.  He was a member of the Maretburg Baptist Church and a 60 year member of the Brodhead Lodge No 566 F&AM.

He is survived by his second wife Jean Skeen Bray, his three sons Ronnie Bray (Rose), Roger Bray (Sharon) and Ritchie Bray (Jenny).  In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Misty Bray Payne (Tommy), Veronica Bray, Neil Bray (Amy), Josh Bray (Heather), Heather Bray McGuire (Eric), John Bray and step grandchild Heather Shivel McClure (Casey).  He is also survived by several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Aslee Bray, his mother Bertha Hensley Owens, stepfather Frank Finley (Bill) Owens, father Ben Bray and an infant great grandchild Elizabeth Kathryn Payne.

Casketbearers will be Neil Bray, Josh Bray, John Bray, Tommy Payne, Eric McGuire and Jason Dillingham.

In lieu of flowers it is suggested that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Maretburg Cemetery fund at 5394 Brindle Ridge Rd, Brodhead, KY  40409.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday September 24th at 1 pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals in Brodhead, Kentucky, with Brother Wayne Harding and Brother Luther Allen officiating, Burial will be in the Maretburg Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 23rd from 6 – 9 pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
