Sarah Faye (Hunt) Hamm

Mrs. Sarah Faye Hunt Hamm, age 81, of Mt Vernon died September, 15th. 2016 at Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on October 14th, 1935 in Mt Vernon. Kentucky, the daughter of the late Virgil and May Sigmon Hunt. She was a graduate of Sue Bennett College, London and Eastern State Teachers College, Richmond and taught in Rockcastle for 31 years – beginning her career in the one room school era- teaching Grades 1-8 at Gabbard, Blue Springs, Brush Creek and Quail before transferring to Brodhead Grade and High School where she taught 2nd grade until she retired in 1989. Sarah Faye was a member of Rockcastle DAR, Kentucky Retired Teachers and was a faithful member of Maretburg Baptist Church.

Survivors are: her husband of 61 years, Jones Oscar Hamm; their son, Jones Kevin (Linda) Hamm; two grandsons, Jarrett Kevin (Mallory) Hamm and Jeriah Konnor Hamm and step- granddaughter, Emily Roark. Two sisters, Virginia Irene (the late Jim) Jones and Dorothy May (Johnny) Masters, both of Fairfield, Ohio and brother in law, Lamar Doutaz of High Point, NC. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Agnes Christine (Willy) Niceley, Betty Jo (Lloyd) Payne and Grace Elizabeth Doutaz, and brothers: Hubert Owen (Julia) Hunt, Willian Edd (Kathleen) Hunt and John Lee Hunt.

Visitation for Mrs. Sarah Faye Hamm will be held Saturday, Sept. 17th from 10:00am until the Funeral at 2:00pm at the Marvin. E. Owens Home for Funerals with Brother Wayne Harding Officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sayers Cemetery.

Casketbearers: Tom Adkins, Mike Barr, Gary Cromer, Tom Darst, Keith Doutaz, David Masters and Steve Owens.
